Once it's set up you can add mods from Steam, or learn to download them from Nexus and install them yourself. You have to get the settings right between: your computer hardware & OS, the installed Windows software settings, your RAM, and anything that's necessary but no longer supported on Steam like Arthmoor's Unofficial Skyrim Patch (only available on Nexus now). Making Skyrim work on a Mac is doable but not simple, prepare for the learning curve. My game runs decently except occasionally I get the WIndows blue screen of death, lol never thought I'd see that on a Mac. I've used PK and also bought Crossover - between these two I am usually covered when Steam makes a major update and breaks everything so nothing works until users and open source people find workarounds. Wine and the open source community rules.
Can confirm this is restricted to just Skyrim, Fallout 3 runs without a hitch on just a clean wine install with no needed workarounds.Another vote for the Porting Kit. I also mentioned wineskin because since it uses wine, this at least seems to be a problem with wine itself thus far- no fixes I've found online seem to work. I'll give that a try and see if it works! I have checked the appdb and taken all the workarounds listed there, that's why I mentioned the steam overlay. You wont get help for Wineskin here since it's a third party program, if you want help on that better check You might want to check the appdb on this site to make sure you have installed everything needed to run Skyrim. Could have something to do with the game itself but I have no way to test. Hitting play runs the Bethesda logo/intro, after which Skyrim promptly crashes. Steam works fine, steam store and library will load, and the Skyrim startup screen works as well. Steam overlay is disabled through libraries in winecfg and in steam settings, and wine is set to Windows XP, not 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated- I'm unsure where to begin troubleshooting and I don't yet know how to get run logs from wine. No mods installed, running through steam on 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro. Happens in every wineskin wrapper and wine itself.
